The Andrew Project (AP or tAP) was a desktop client system (like early GNOME) for X with a tiling and overlapping window manager. Its features are described by its promotional video. RTL ran on X11R2 and R3, mainly on the "native" Siemens systems, e.g., SINIX. One of the early (created in 1988) tiling WMs was Siemens' RTL, up to today a textbook example because of its algorithms of automated window scaling, placement and arrangement, and (de)iconification. In 1986 came Digital Research's GEM 2.0, a windowing system for the CP/M which used tiling by default. Microsoft's Windows 1.0 (released in 1985) also used tiling (see sections below). ![]() Next in 1983 came Andrew WM, a complete tiled windowing system later replaced by X11. ![]() Later, Xerox PARC also developed CEDAR (released in 1982), the first windowing system using a tiled window manager. The first Xerox Star system (released in 1981) tiled application windows, but allowed dialogs and property windows to overlap. In computing, a tiling window manager is a window manager with an organization of the screen into mutually non-overlapping frames, as opposed to the more common approach (used by stacking window managers) of coordinate-based stacking of overlapping objects ( windows) that tries to fully emulate the desktop metaphor. The dwm window manager with the screen divided into four tiles.

Indeed, Twitter suffered a high-profile hack only this summer, after which the download option was completely unavailable for six weeks: Why? To stop hackers immediately downloading account data following a successful hack. However 24 hours seems very neat, so I suspect this is instead a deliberate delay introduced by Twitter. I made my two requests on consecutive days, so the time taken may indicate a fairly consistent queue or backlog at Twitter's end. Given that the accounts were of different sizes but took exactly the same time, it doesn't feel as if the size of the account is the main factor in determining how long you have to wait. In each case I received an email notification almost exactly 24 hours later that the data was ready: In my case, I requested a data download for two accounts: an old but little used one, and a newer one with more data. In the mobile app, the option is in the same place but is called Your Twitter data and takes you out of the app to the website. The download option is available on desktop by logging into Twitter and then going to More > Settings and privacy > Your account > Download an archive of your data. I went through the download process myself recently - so how long did it take for me, and what did the data export contain when it was ready? Requesting your Twitter data The Twitter Help Centre does warn "It may take a few days for us to prepare the download of your Twitter archive." However many articles published elsewhere on the web say the timeframe is much quicker than that, giving times that range from a minute to a couple of hours. Twitter provides the option to 'download an archive of your data', giving you a ZIP file of (in Twitter's words) "the data we think is most important to you". 4 What's in the Twitter data export? Introduction RAR stands for “Roshal Archive”, initially developed by a Russian engineer “Eugene Roshal” in 1993. The ZIP file can be created using many different programs like WinRAR, WinZip, 7-Zip, Info-ZIP, PeaZip.ZIP supports a file size of up to 16 EB (nearly 1718 GB).The algorithm which ZIP uses is weaker as compared to WinRAR.Zip is widely known and is supported almost everywhere.Applications like WinRAR, WinZip, 7-Zip, Info-ZIP, PeaZip, and B1 Free Archiver are the most common ones. There are many software available licensed and accessible, which supports the ZIP file format. Before, ZIP was only able to archive or compress files up to 4 GB only, but with the release of v4.5, now it was able to support up to 16 EB. Among these, version v4.5, aka ZIP64, was one of the essential releases. Over the years many versions of ZIP have been released. ZIP was quickly adapted by much other software, and ever since 1989, Microsoft Windows has made a built-in ZIP by the name of “compressed folder”. ZIP uses many algorithms for compressing files, but among them, “DEFLATE” is the most common, created in 1989, developed by PKWARE.Inc. ZIP means “To move at high speed”, it is an archive file format that also allows the user to compress one or more than one file and folders without losing any data. ![]() ![]() By just learning about them, you will understand what they are about and which one you should use. ![]() Keeping combos running can be a real challenge, particularly on harder difficulties, but the power of PlatinumGames’ design is in how it makes you feel powerful and precise, even if you’re semi-aimlessly mashing buttons. If you enjoyed the combat in last year’s Nier: Automata, for example, you’ll find a lot to love in the balletic swoops and twirls of Bayonetta’s fighting style. The flow of the fighting in Bayonetta is amongst the best you’ll find in a video game, even within PlatinumGames’ own stable of titles. With a Switch-exclusive Bayonetta 3 on the horizon, there’s no better time to delve back into this madcap series.īoth games are very similar, emphasising stylish, frenetic combat. Bayonetta 2 refines and builds on the first Bayonetta, cutting the original game’s baggier aspects whilst improving the mind-bending visuals and tightening its stellar combat. The relative unpopularity of that ill-fated console, especially compared to the success of the Switch, means this port is likely to be the first time many people will experience the game – and that’s a very good thing. This latter aspect meant family-friendly Nintendo wasn’t the most obvious choice to bring Bayonetta 2 to market, which it did as a Wii U exclusive in 2014. ![]() Bayonetta is sexualised, sometimes with the tact of a teenage fantasy, but often with humour and a seam of irreverence that runs throughout the two games. It’s an exuberantly camp adventure, often incomprehensible, but full of tongue-in-cheek humour and a compelling main character. If you’re unfamiliar with the world of Bayonetta, it centres on the titular witch as she romps around a Dantesque land where the forces of Paradiso and Inferno have fallen out of whack.
